Job (In Hebrew Eyob)
This is a short look at the book of Job.
Is it possible that this book gives us a foundational understanding of the whole bible? The answer is yes it does. I will use the English rendering of Eyob’s name, which is Job, for the sake of those from all walks.
Job is considered by some the oldest book in the bible. There is a lot of talk about when he lived and where he lived. One thing that puts it in the patriarchal period is he lived 140 years. This is close to the ages that the patriarchs lived. Something else is the creatures he describes are unknown to us now. Searches have been made to find Job in another language, but nothing. Keep in mind Job most likely lived before the Torah was given at Mt. Sinai. He never mentions Israel. Some of the names and places seem to place him in Esaw’s inheritance. Teman was the eldest grandson of Esaw (Gen 36:15), and Job’s friend, Eliphaz in Job chapters 2, 4, 15 and 22 was a Temanite. It seems Job lived after Abraham and before Israel left Egypt. But we do not know for sure.
The only things Job knew about YHWH (English spelling of our heavenly Father’s Hebrew name) and what was right and wrong in His eyes were what was handed down to him through the generations from Noah. He speaks of things we know little about. He expects to be redeemed by a Redeemer who will rise over the dust in the latter days and put his sins in a bag. He also expects to see his Redeemer in his flesh and at some time be changed. It is interesting that through oral traditions circulating in his time, Job was expecting exactly what came to be and will come through Yahushua Messiah in the first century CE.
Things we learn about YHWH, Job and satan
What are we to learn from this story? It is not attributed to an Israelite or a Hebrew, which is another reason to believe the Book of Job, predates the nation of Israel’s existence. What is the importance of this story to YHWH’s chosen people? There are several ideas about what and why; but none of them have filled that empty spot in me until recently.
Job seems to contradict Torah. Isn’t it supposed to be, blessings if you obey and curses if you don’t obey (Deut. Chapters 27 thru 29)? Why is this man Job suffering if he is perfect and upright before Elohim (God)? Well, that is the big question.
Maybe if we understand this story and this man, we will have a much better understanding of what the attributes are that make a person perfect and upright in the eyes of YHWH. He does not appear to be a Hebrew or an Israelite so there is no prejudice because of being or not being a chosen people. In this story we can see how things work, when there are no chosen elect nation or people, just YHWH and the seed of Adam all on a level playing field.
I will start with who said what. I am not going into what was said in Job1:1-6 at this time. First, I want to look at the things that are plainly said and focus on them. Then later, we can speculate on things that we really do not have enough information to establish a solid understanding of what was going on.
A few random thoughts to begin with are as follows. I think the idea that satan could win a battle with YHWH had already been decided at the time of Job. Otherwise, why is satan slinking around in the garden enticing Chava (Eve) to disobey a command of Elohim? He has no name, simply adversary, which is the meaning of the word satan in Hebrew. So satan needed another strategy, which he probably had not come up with at the first interaction with YHWH (depicted in Job 1:6).
I want to spend just a little bit of space here to get a good understanding of satan after his fall (Isa. Chapter 14 and Eze. Chapter 28). The personality of satan is probably best seen in an understanding we have today known as narcissism. Narcissus is a figure from Greek mythology who was so impossibly handsome that he fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool of water. You can look him up on google and see a lot of details about him and the disorder maned after him, but there is one particular characteristic he had that fits satan in the story of Job. It is that he sees himself as so perfect that he considered that he should not be serving Elohim but should be the most high Elohim. This type of pride produces a blindness to reality. As shown in 2 Thes. 2:8-11, if a person or being does not have a love of the truth (Psalms 119:142 “Your Torah is the truth”, 119:151 “Your commands are the truth”) YHWH gives them a delusion to believe the falsehood (verse 11). The pride and love of himself that satan has causes him to not be able to conceive that anyone would not do what he would do in any situation. His pride led to greed. In Isa. Chapter 14 he is described and the prince of Babel who fell by pride (Nebuchadnezzar) and what follows in Eze. Chapter 28 he falls because of pride then greed.
What satan is doing in the book of Job is projecting his evil on Job, believing fully that Job would do exactly what he would do in the situations Job was put in. He does the same to us today. Understanding how this works today is foundational to understanding our identity and power over satan.
Moving forward
The sons of Elohim came to present themselves before YHWH. Satan also came among them. Who are the sons of Elohim? Psalms 82 will give you an idea. To delve into that is another article and not the object of this article.
Why is satan among these angels? We don’t know. For whatever reason, they are in the presence of YHWH. Reporting in with YHWH’s divine council it appears (Kings 22:19-23). Why does satan have access to this meeting and why would YHWH give him authority to mess with anyone, particularly a man that YHWH considers upright and perfect before Him? It seems satan is making a case against humanity that anyone would do what he did given a choice. The choice is the flesh and the lust that goes with that, or the spirit. I give a lot of time to this subject to this in a separate article called the Reign of Elohim in the heavens and on the earth.
Satan is asked from where have you come? He answered YHWH, “from going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it”. What happens next could be YHWH setting satan up. Knowing satan’s pride which would guide his thinking; YHWH asked satan,” Have you set your heart on My servant Job. There is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, fearing Elohim and turning away from evil.
And satan answered YHWH and said, does Job fear Elohim for nothing? This is the first clue as to what satan is thinking. YHWH pronounced Job upright, meaning he served him without selfish motive. Satan thinks he can prove YHWH wrong because he believes with all his heart Job will do exactly what he would. If YHWH erred concerning Job, He would have shown that He does not have complete and total control over His creation. Then, He would have disqualified Himself as Ruler and Judge. YHWH would have contradicted what He says about Himself (1 Sam, 2:2, Ex. 15:11, Duet. 32:4, Psalms 86:8 and Isa. 57:15). YHWH, as the Holy One, is separate from all limitations of His creatures. If YHWH erred, that would no longer be true. Then contrary to claims such as Isa. 46:5-9 & Psalms 89:6, He would not be qualified to sit on the Throne of YHWH commanding what creatures must do.
If a judge is incompetent, he would be disqualified. So satan probably figured if YHWH disqualified Himself; then he and his cohorts could choose for themselves how and where to live.
Scriptures
Now I will list the exact scriptures and analyze them as we read them. These verses are copied from ISR Scriptures 2009, which uses the Hebrew for the heavenly Father’s Name; but I have changed it to the English letters that represent the Hebrew letters for His Name, which are YHWH as said above.
Job 1:7 And YHWH said to Satan, “From where do you come?” And Satan answered YHWH and said, “From diligently searching in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
Job 1:8 And YHWH said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and straight man, one who fears Elohim and turns aside from evil?”
Job 1:9 And satan answered YHWH and said, “Is Job fearing Elohim for naught?
Job 1:10 Have You not made a hedge around him, and around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
Job 1:11 But stretch out Your hand, please, and strike all that he has – if he would not curse You to Your face!”
Job 2:1 Again the day came to be that the sons of Elohim came to present themselves before YHWH, and Satan also came among them to present himself before YHWH.
This coming and presenting themselves seems to be a regular thing. See again Psalms 82 and 1 Kings 22:19-23.
YHWH definitely has a divine counsel.
Job 2:2 And YHWH said to Satan, “From where do you come?” And Satan answered YHWH and said, “From diligently searching in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
Job 2:3 And YHWH said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and straight man, one who fears Elohim and turns aside from evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Because satan incited YHWH, He was allowing Job to be destroyed without cause? Why would YHWH care what satan thinks? I am just thinking out loud.
Job 2:4 And satan answered YHWH and said, “Skin for skin, and all that a man has he would give for his life!
Job 2:5 But stretch out Your hand, please, and strike his bone and his flesh – if he would not curse You to Your face!”
Job 2:6 And YHWH said to Satan, “See, he is in your hand, only spare his life.
Now to review what was said starting with YHWH. He said Job was a perfect and straight
(Upright) man, who fears Elohim and turns aside from evil. In Job 28:28. YHWH explains fearing Elohim and turning from evil as follows. Job 28:28 And “YHWH said to man, See, the fear of YHWH is wisdom and to turn from evil is understanding”. Turning from evil is being obedient to the commands of our Father in heaven. Psalms 111:10 says all those doing YHWH’s orders have a good understanding.
YHWH says Job is perfect and straight twice, two witnesses from the mouth of YHWH Himself.
This I think is especially important, because now we can look at Job’s attributes to see what YHWH considers to be those attributes that make a man perfect and upright. Two of them are right here; Job fears Elohim and turns away from evil. YHWH ultimately explains what that means through the book of Job.
We will look further into his attributes, but first let’s look at what satan said.
In Job1:9; is Job fearing Elohim for naught (nothing)?
My understanding here, satan is saying Job would not serve YHWH if he wasn’t being rewarded. What satan is doing; is trying to project his evil onto Job as I said above. Satan looked deep into himself. He reasoned no one would fear and serve YHWH for no reward (nothing). Satan is reasoning that others would curse YHWH to His face; just as he did when he tried to usurp YHWH’s authority, if the rewards were taken away.
YHWH definitely operates all creation within a legal framework (Ps 82). YHWH has to be correct in all things, as said above, to qualify to rule. Satan is betting he will prove him wrong; proving that YHWH does not qualify to rule over him. I think that legal framework has something to do with the messengers and satan presenting themselves before YHWH. I do not think they were just dropping by to say hello.
For an in depth look at what we know about YHWH’s angels; I would suggest reading “Michael Heiser’s books on angels”.
One of the most important things to remember is what satan is doing. He is trying to project his evil onto Job. This is his case against YHWH. Now even more so, he is trying to project his evil onto all humanity. He believes completely that he is correct in his prideful and greedy ways. After going through all of Job, I will go into the parallels with what satan is doing today. Satan does not change, and YHWH does not either.
After everything was taken away from Job, he did not curse Elohim. Instead, he clarified his understanding of what was going on.
Job 1:21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I return there. YHWH has given, and YHWH has taken away. Blessed be the Name of YHWH. This statement is opposite of what satan expected.
Then after satan struck him in his flesh he said the following.
Job 2:7 And Satan went out from the presence of YHWH and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
Job 2:8 And he took a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes.
Job 2:9 And his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse Elohim and die!”
Job 2:10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Indeed, should we accept only good from Elohim, and not accept evil?” In all this, Job did not sin with his lips.
I believe most all people at this point would be saying” Father what have I done to deserve this”? Job does not do that, instead he accepts the evil that has come upon him and believes it is not a result of wrongdoing on his part. This is evident all through his discourses with his friends. I will mention something here that is proved out as we go on, and that is Job’s friends were being satan’s witnesses against Job.
I want to point out something now what YHWH says towards the end of the book. Because I want you to have this in mind as we continue.
Job 42:7 And it came to be, after YHWH had spoken these words to Job, that YHWH said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath has burned against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as did My servant Job.
So, by the mouth of YHWH what Job spoke of Him was right.
Now for more things Job said. I put some of the things Job said in blue below that point to Job’s messianic expectations.
Job 9:22 It is all the same, therefore I say, ‘He destroys the perfect and the wrong.
So, sometimes YHWH destroys the perfect with the wrong. We need to think about this a bit. But I doubt there will be anyone reading this that hasn’t seen this happen. Someone who seemed righteous dies or suffers some tragedy.
Job 13:15 Though, He kills me – in Him I expect! But I show my ways to be right before Him.
This statement proves satan’s assertion that Job would do anything to save his life Wrong! Job’s expectations were not limited to his life in his flesh, satan has been proven wrong three times now (Job 1:2, 2:10 &13:15). Three witnesses!
Job is expecting something because he feels his ways have been right before Elohim. That expectation, as said above, is not necessarily to be something he would receive while still alive.
Job 13:16 He also is my deliverance (the Hebrew word is Yahushua), for a defiled one does not come before Him.
Job expects that he will be cleansed by a Deliverer so that he will be able to come before Elohim.
Job 13:17 Listen closely to my words, and with your ears to what I say.
Job 13:18 Look, please, I have prepared my case, I know that I am in the right.
Job 13:19 Who is he who would strive with me? For then I would keep silent and die.
Job 13:20 Only two matters do not do to me, then, I am not hidden from Your face:
Job 13:21 Withdraw Your hand far from me and let not dread of You make me afraid.
This is interesting. Job does not want YHWH to withdraw His face from him, even though he understands it is YHWH that has allowed him to be stricken. This is an exhibition of faith far beyond anything I can think of to this point in scripture; except maybe the binding of Issac. He must believe that YHWH is in complete control and regardless of what is happening it ultimately must be for good, even if he cannot possibly understand at this point. Job at this point is appearing to be worn out. He is pleading to be able to present his case (verse 18) so, that he might gain some insight of why this is all happening. Ultimately Job never received the answer to why this was all happening but accepted that, as we will see later.
Job 13:15 Though, He kills me – in Him expect! But I show my ways to be right before Him.
He realizes that YHWH is the source of all things and is always in total control of His creation. Whatever is going on must be ultimately for the good and restoration of His Kingdom.
The second half of this statement is interesting as well.
Here is what I think might be going on here.
Fear: Meanings
People who worshiped pagan gods were afraid of them. Not reverent fear like Job had for YHWH, but a sudden terror kind of fear. These people were so afraid of them, they even offered their own babies in fire to these pagan gods to appease them. You can look up the two words for fear here. They are Strong’s Definition: H3373, pronounced yaw-ray; a reverent fear, and Strong’s Definition: H1204, pronounced bawath; for a sudden terror kind of fear. The kind of fear you would have of an enemy, instead of the kind of loving respect fear you would have for your father.
Uses of Fear in Job 2:3
Check out H3372 pronounced yaw-ray’; BDB Definition: to fear, revere, be afraid, to stand in awe, be awed, reverence, honor, respect, to cause astonishment and awe, be held in awe, to inspire reverence or godly fear or awe, to make afraid, terrify (2) to shoot, pour.
Uses of Terrify in Job 13:21
Check out H1204 pronounced baw-ath; BDB Definition: (1) to terrify, startle, fall upon, dismay, be overtaken by sudden terror, to be terrified, to fall upon, overwhelm, to terrify.
With all this said, I think Job is saying, I do not want to ever view You in this way, so please do not startle me or scare me so much that I become afraid of you, like the pagans fear their gods. If that happened Job would no longer be able to have a relationship with his creator.
This is of great importance, because it shows Job viewed YHWH as an Elohim (God) that he could have a relationship with. He was comfortable saying how he saw things to YHWH. He saw YHWH as an Elohim of power and good, not an Elohim of power alone that would act out against you simply; because you dared to utter anything to him or displease him in any way. Job was comfortable stating his case, and to say what he thought to be true.
Continuing
Job 13:22 Then call, and let me answer; or let me speak, and You reply to me.
Job 13:23 How many are my crookedness’s and sins? Let me know my transgression and my sin.
Job 13:24 Why do You hide Your face, and reckon me as Your enemy?
Job 13:25 Would You frighten a leaf driven to and fro? And would You pursue dry stubble?
Job 13:26 For You write bitter charges against me, and make me inherit the crookedness of my youth,
Job 13:27 and put my feet in the stocks and look closely to all my paths. You set a limit for the soles of my feet.
Job 13:28 And he, like that which is rotten, wastes away, as a garment that is moth-eaten.
Job 14:1 Man born of woman is of few days and turmoil filled.
Job 14:2 He comes forth like a flower and withers. He flees like a shadow and does not continue.
Job 14:3 Yet on such a one, You open Your eyes, and bring me to right-ruling with Yourself!
Job 14:4 Who brings the clean out of the unclean? No one!
Job 14:5 Since his days are decided, the number of his new moons is with You, You have made his laws, and he does not pass over.
Job 14:6 Look away from him and let him rest, till like a hired man he enjoys his day.
Job 14:7 For there is expectancy for a tree, if it is cut down, that it does sprout again, and that its tender branch does not cease.
Job 14:8 Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground,
Job 14:9 at the scent of water it buds and brings forth foliage like a plant.
Job 14:10 But man dies and is powerless, and man expires, and where is he?
Job 14:11 Water disappears from the sea, and a river dries up and is parched,
Job 14:12 and man shall lie down and not rise. Till the heavens are no more, they awake not, nor are aroused from their sleep.
Job 14:13 If only you would hide me in Sheol, conceal me until Your wrath turns away. Set for me a law, and remember me!
Job 14:14 If a man dies, would he live again? All the days of my struggle I wait, till my change comes.
Job 14:15 You would call, and I would answer You. You have yearned for the work of Your hands.
Job 14:16 For now You count my steps – do You not watch over my sin?
Job 14:17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and You cover over my crookedness.
Job 19:25 for I know that my Redeemer lives, and as the Last shall rise over the dust;
Job 19:26 and after my skin has been struck off, then in my flesh I shall see Eloah!
Job still did not curse Elohim but blessed Him instead in all that came upon him. He accepted his plight and recognized that good people are swept away and die without cause. He is beginning to cry out in his distress and ask to just die or show me the reason for this.
He also understood that there is a resurrection and at that time he would be changed. He has faith that his Redeemer lives, and at last (end) shall rise over the dust. These things are what he was looking forward to.
Job never accepted what his friends were saying that he had sinned against YHWH and therefore he was receiving the wages of a sinner. And YHWH says Job was right in verse 42:7 quoted on page 4 above.
This being before Torah was given at Sinai means Job knew right from wrong through oral transmission from his forefathers back to Adam.
Without quoting Job 26 here, I will say that there are many parallels with the fall of satan and YHWH covering the rephaim and preserving His throne on the sides of the north. Also, there are parallels here with the descriptions of satan’s attributes and fall described in Isa.14 and Ez. 28. In Job 26:12 some translations say, “By His power He quiets the sea and by His understanding He shatters pride”; others say He struck down rahab or the serpent. In verse 13;” by His hand He adorned the heavens. His hand pierced the fleeing serpent”. It is interesting Job’s understandings have these parallels. Also, in Job 15:15, Eliphaz mentions that YHWH puts no trust in His Holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in YHWH’s eyes. It is interesting that they knew so much. What Eliphaz is saying is some part of YHWH’s ministering angles have become unclean. We can see this in Psalms Chapter 82.
There is much more in Job’s responses to his friends, but the rest is mostly them berating him for claiming to be upright before YHWH, and Job claiming that all that has come on him is not because he sinned against YHWH.
Almost everyone to whom I have mentioned I was writing about Job had a verse that has been important to them. If only I could get us all in one room and put all they have into this also. It could become a small book. But writing this and putting it out is for that very purpose. Please feel free to contact me if you have something to add to this or to question any of the understanding I have written here. Together we are a body and have so much more power to produce goodness.
Job proved Satan wrong. As I mentioned above satan was projecting his prideful and greedy characteristics on Job, and all humanity. It appears YHWH picked Job to be His champion and satan was the challenger. It also appears that YHWH bated satan as I said above, knowing satan’s heart and Jobs heart.
Job was YHWH’s witness against satan’s accusations against humanity. Job was the earthly human witness. Keep in mind all matters, according to Torah, are established by the mouth of two to three witnesses (Duet. 19:15)
Job’s defense of his righteousness before YHWH was as follows.
Job 31
- I have made a covenant with my eyes. How then could I gaze at a maiden? (He will not allow his eyes to look on a maiden with lust)
- For what is the portion of Eloah from above, and the inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
- Is it not calamity to the perverse, and strangeness to the workers of wickedness?
- Does He not see my ways, and number all my steps?
- If I have walked with falsehood, or if my foot has hurried to deceit,
- let Him weigh me in a right scale and let Eloah know my integrity.
- If my step does turn from the way, or my heart has gone after my eyes, or if any spot has clung to my hands,
- let me sow, and another eat; and let my harvest be rooted out.
- If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door,
- let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down over her.
- For that would be a wicked scheme, and a punishable crookedness.
- For that would be a fire that burns to destruction and take root among all my increase.
- If I have refused the plea of my male servant or my female servant when they complained against me,
- then what should I do when El rises up? And when He punishes, what should I answer Him?
- Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not One fashion us in the womb?
- If I have withheld the poor from pleasure, or caused the widow’s eyes to fail,
- or eaten my piece of bread by myself, and the fatherless did not eat of it
- but from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and from my mother’s womb I guided her
- if I have seen anyone perish for lack of garments, or a poor one without covering;
- if his loins have not blessed me, and he warmed himself with the fleece of my sheep;
- if I have raised my hand against the fatherless, when I saw I had help in the gate;
- let my arm fall from my shoulder, and my arm be broken from the bone.
- For I am in dread of destruction from El, and from His excellence I could not escape.
- If I have put my trust in gold, or called fine gold my refuge;
- if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gained much;
- if I have looked at the sun when it shines, or the moon moving in brightness,
- so that my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth has kissed my hand (pride)
- that too is a punishable crookedness, for I would have denied El above.
- If I have rejoiced when he who hated me was ruined, or lifted myself up when evil found him
- also I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for a curse on his life
- if the men of my tent did not say, ‘Who is there that has not been satisfied with his meat?’
- The stranger did not have to spend the night in the street, for I have opened my doors to the way.
- If I have covered my transgressions like Adam, by hiding my crookedness in my bosom,
- then let me fear the great crowd, and dread the scorn of clans, then I would be silent, and go out of the door!
- Who would give me a hearing? See, my signature, let the Almighty answer me, and let my accuser write a bill!
- Would I not take it up on my shoulder, bind it on me for a crown?
- I would declare to Him the number of my steps – I would approach Him like a prince.
- If my land cries out against me, or its furrows weep together;
- if I have eaten its fruit without payment, or caused its owners to die;
- let thistles grow instead of wheat, and useless weed instead of barley.”
The words of Job are ended. I would like to say here that these are the reasons YHWH considered Job a perfect and upright man, along with him being a man who feared Elohim and turned away from evil.
Job did not do all these things for hope of a reward in his earthly life (as satan insinuated he was doing). In other words, Job did not take the fleshly rewards, but he took the promise of the Spiritual rewards instead (Romans 8: 1-11).Job’s good deeds were out of his compassion for YHWH’S creation. Which I believe is a big part of being in the image of YHWH. He never cursed Elohim as satan expected he would do. Instead, he continued to Bless Him. And his expectations were not in the flesh but in his resurrection and change.
If any of us are ever called out to be YHWH’S witness as Job was, we can look on what Job’s hope was. Job’s hope was: Job knew his Redeemer lived and would rise above the dust at the end. He knew he would be changed or transformed and see Elohim. No longer would the wrong prosper and no longer would right be called wrong and wrong be called right (Isa. 5:20-25). He knew at that time the reign of Elohim would be restored on earth.
How did Job know all that he did?
How did Job know these things before there was a written word? We can only believe as said above that it was word of mouth from Adam. Adam lived to Methuselah. Methuselah lived to Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Yepath. Then Shem taught by Methuselah, who lived by some genealogies to the early half of Yaakov’s’ life taught all his progeny. From the mouth of YHWH to Adam there was only Methuselah and Shem to all the patriarchs. If Job lived during the life of Shem as it appears from what we know of when Job lived. We think he was probably in Esau’s inheritance somewhere. From the edge of Sier to Jerusalem is probably 60 to 70 miles as a crow flies. It is not hard to believe that either Shem traveled around teaching or people seeking the knowledge of YHWH, or Job could have traveled to Shem to be taught. These are just my thoughts on how Job had all this understanding, even a Messianic understanding. Even if Shem was dead at this time it would be only one or two generations. The world was not very big in Jobs time.
A second and third witness against satan.
Yahushua left heaven and all the power and esteem He had with His Father in heaven. He descended to earth and lived a life in the flesh, with all the infirmities. He descended to sheol, after dying a horrible death. His light and eternal life was not extinguished by the death of the flesh, because He was sinless. The light is the life eternal, and the light is in the blood. The Spirit returns to Eloah when a man dies(see Ecclesiastes 12:7). When the neshamah (breath of life) left Him. He descended to sheol and His light that was in His blood overcame darkness. He took captivity all humanity from Adam to the last human to live (Psalms 68:18, Eph. 4:8 & 1 John 2:2) and brought them out of satan’s kingdom of darkness. Leaving satan’s house a ruin. Then He was raised to heaven and had no more than He had when He left heaven to come to earth. All because of His compassion (love) for us and all of YHWH’s creation. Redeeming all humanity from the kingdom of darkness; that would choose Yahushua as their redeemer. And follow in obedience. Yahushua was a witness against satan just like Job, but on the spiritual heavenly level as well as the human level.
He was the second witness and that settled satan’s case against YHWH. At that point satan was totally defeated and his house ruined. We were totally liberated from the law of sin and death. This law was enacted when Chava (Eve) and Adam ate of the forbidden fruit. Note that Adam’s sin was a sin unto death. Look at First John 5:16. I will this discuss in depth later.
Something I am going to mention here that will require some discussion later is, Yahushua’s death, burial and resurrection removed the law of sin and death. Which was enacted when Adam deliberately and knowingly sinned. This created a generational curse on all his seed to come. That curse was twofold. First is, we were all condemned to eternal separation from our Heavenly Father by the second death. As said Yahushua removed that part of the curse, but there is another part, and that is the knowledge of evil that dwells in us. That has not been removed yet. It will be removed when the tare, sometimes called darnel, which is the knowledge of evil, is removed. Our conscience cannot be cleansed until it is removed along with all the sins it caused in us. When it is removed then YHWH will make a new covenant with us and write His Torah on our hearts (Jer. 31:31-34) and He will bring us back to the promise land and sprinkle us with clean water and cleanse us of our filthiness (the evil that dwelt in us) and give us a new spirit and a heart of flesh and not of stone (Eze. 36:22-26). These things will all happen when the knowledge of evil is removed (Matt. 13:37-43). At this time our conscience will be cleansed, and we will have no more remembrance of the evil that satan manifested in our flesh, and those things will not be remembered against us. In Rev. 12:9-11 satan is thrown to the earth and no longer has access to heaven. Verse 10 says, now have come the deliverance and the power and the reign of Elohim. The deliverance spoken of here is us being delivered from the evil that dwells in us. This deliverance completes Yahushua’s restoration of YHWH’s reign. We at this time shall overcome satan when he comes after us by the blood of the Lamb and because of the Word of our witness. Yahushua testifies prophetically of this time in Luke 10:15-17. He says He saw satan fall from heaven like lightning and that He will give us authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and none at all shall hurt you.
There is also a third witness at a corporate human level, and that is the descendants of Judah. Look at what they have endured for the last 2000 years. And they just continue worshipping and blessing YHWH in their way.
Now I am going to recommend listening to Rabbi Yitzchak Breitowitz on You Tube now, so you can see how Rabbinical Judaism views the book of Job. I think they play off satan and his fall; but he has some things that are important to understand also. He inserts things that are not in the scriptures. Don’t be alarmed. Just chew it up and spit out the bones as my wife says. I enjoyed listening to it. https://youtu.be/e9LB47o4Q9M
Six main things I see as the significance of the story of Job; 1. We can see what YHWH considers a perfect and upright man. 2. We can see that Job proved the assertions of satan wrong. 3. It lets us know what our expectations should be if we end up in a similar situation. 4. It shows us satan cannot operate without YHWH’s permission. He has boundaries he cannot violate. 5. He has some authority given to him by YHWH to try to prove his case. If he could operate outside his boundaries, that very fact would prove that YHWH was not in total control of His creation. 6. It shows us, YHWH is an Elohim that we can have a relationship with. An example is James 1:5 as follows. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask Elohim, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given him. This would not be something a pagan would expect from their gods. Pagan gods required virgins and babies and such. It was believed that if you didn’t keep them satisfied, they would attack you in some way. The pagans lived in fear of them. Job shows that He was comfortable speaking his thoughts. Also Exo. 34:6-7 as follows.
Exo 34:6 And YHWH passed before him and proclaimed, “YHWH ,YHWH, an El compassionate and showing favor, patient, and great in loving-commitment and truth,
Exo 34:7 watching over loving-commitment for thousands, forgiving crookedness and transgression and sin, but by no means leaving unpunished,a visiting the crookedness of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.
Now it is time to look at how satan is operating today in YHWH’S chosen people.
Where I am going now is not my idea; but just what the scriptures say. I want to say that I’m not telling you anything. I’m just showing the scriptures. We can’t refute them. If you think I’m erring in my understanding don’t be shy about telling me. Provoking thought and achieving truth through a multitude of witnesses is what this is all about, as I said above. What we think about what the Scriptures say cannot defeat the literal meaning of the written word.
When Yahushua died on that stake and descended to sheol; then was raised by His Father to heaven. He redeemed all humanity (all Adam) that would accept His redemption and follow in obedience.
Forgive me if I become redundant in making the statement “and follow in obedience” many times. It is so important and overlooked that I can’t help but repeat it.
YHWH’s view of sin in the Tanak
Each year the High Priest would come into the set apart place with the blood of a young bull and a ram to cleanse his conscience, before he could enter the Holy of Holies. He had to have his conscience cleansed of sin before he could enter the Holy of Holies where the Kavod (the Esteem of YHWH) was, or he would end up dead like Nadab and Abihu. I’m bringing this up now to show where sins are stored in the seed of Adam.
When Yahushua entered sheol as said above it was because the neshamah (breath or spirit of life) left Him. For the first time ever, He was not in the presence of His Father. Avinu baShamayim (Our Father in Heaven) cannot be in the presence of a dead body because it is the most unclean thing of all. The generational curse of Adam was firstly that all his descendants would die the second death (eternal separation from Avinu). All the sins of Adam and his descendants were then on Yahushua. He felt all the agony and grief that those sins had caused. What satan had not reckoned was, the light and the life eternal was still in (the light is the and life is in the blood John 1:4-5 & Lev. 17:11) His blood.
This is what satan had not counted on. Even though the breath of the life of the flesh had left Him, when He entered sheol that light and the life eternal were still in His blood (Lev. 17:11), and that light overcame the darkness (John 1:4-5). He took captivity captive (Eph. 4:8 & Psalms 68:18) and brought all humanity out of that darkness (1 John 2:2). Therefore, redeeming all of the seed of Adam from eternal separation from Avinu, and leaving satan’s house a wreck. The only ones that will be in satan’s kingdom of darkness (separation from YHWH) will be those that choose the seed of satan over YHWH. Through this act of obedience to His Father, the part of the generational curse of Adam that brought eternal separation from our Father in Heaven was removed. From that point on every man dies for his own (deliberate unrepentant) sin or lives by his righteousness (Eze. Chapter 18).
There is another part of the generational curse of Adam that is not yet removed, and that is the seed of satan (the intimate knowledge of evil) still dwells in our fleshly body. That part of the curse is removed when satan is cast out of heaven and there is no longer a place found for him in heaven as follows.
Rev 12:7 And there came to be fighting in the heaven: Miḵael and his messengers fought against the dragon. And the dragon and his messengers fought,
Rev 12:8 but they were not strong enough, nor was a place found for them in the heaven any longer.
Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who leads all the world astray. He was thrown to the earth, and his messengers were thrown out with him.
Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in the heaven, “Now have come the deliverance and the power and the reign of our Elohimb and the authority of His Messiah, for the accuser of our brothers, who accused them before our Elohim day and night, has been thrown down. Footnote: bSee Rev_11:15.
Rev 12:11 “And they overcame him because of the Blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their witness, and they did not love their lives to the death.
My first thoughts when I read this were, what would we need to be delivered from? Then I realized that the seed of satan is still in us. When satan and his followers are thrown out of heaven, and he cannot return then he can no longer accuse us before our Elohim (see verse 10 above). The adversary (satan) had a case against Avinu, and all humanity have been and still are the witnesses. Obviously satan has prescribed time to prove his case (most likely six thousand years). He was the accuser of the seed of Adam and Yahushua was our defender. We are the witnesses against satan when we love and praise Avinu and give thanks to His son even unto death (verse 12 above) regardless of our physical condition. Every time a human being dies of a wasting disease with the praise of our Father in Heaven on their lips satan is proved wrong. At that point we have chosen the seed of Avinu (the knowledge of good) over the seed of satan (the knowledge of evil), therefore proving satan’s accusations (the same accusations he made about Job) wrong. His case is that we will choose the flesh over the Spirit. All those that choose the flesh over the Spirit will no longer be under Yahushua’s atoning blood. This should be a wake-up call as to what the mark of the beast will be. The choice will clearly be choosing a human king to be your savior or Yashuah to be our King. We are close to this election most likely.
Now let’s look at what John and Paul say about sin in YHWH’s redeemed people.
1Jn 3:9 Everyone having been born of Elohim does not sin, because His seed stays in him, and he is powerless to sin, because he has been born of Elohim. See also 1 John 5:18. The seed of Elohim mentioned here is described further as follows.
Rom. 8:9; But you are not in flesh, but in Spirit, since the Spirit of YHWH dwells in you. But if anyone has not the Spirit of Messiah, this one does not belong to Him.
10 But if Messiah is in you, the body indeed is dead because of sin but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
The Spirit is light, and the life is in the blood (Lev. 17:11). The seed of Elohim is Spirit of the Father and the Son. In it, is the light and life eternal.
When we accepted the redemption Yahushua brought to us as our Kinsman Redeemer; then followed through with immersion (to some known as baptism); we are immersed with Him into death. Then we rise out of the water a new creation. This fleshly body is our temple, having in it the seed of Elohim (1 John 3:9). That seed is the Spirit of Elohim (Romans 8:9). In that Spirit dwells the Light of Elohim and eternal Life (John 1:4-5). The life is in the blood (Lev. 17:11). This is our identity now. We are not sinners. If we accept satan’s sins; we come into agreement with satan that we are sinners. That is in direct opposition to 1 John 3:6-9, 1 Peter 1:23 & 1 John 5:18. This acceptance of sin is what Job’s friends were trying to get Job to accept.
Paul explains this in Romans:
Rom 7:14 for we know that the Torah is Spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
Rom 7:15 for what I work, I know not. For what I wish that I do not practice, but what I hate, that I do.
Rom 7:16 But if I do what I do not wish, I agree with the Torah that it is good. (Torah of sin and death verse 23 not the Torah of Elohim; see Gal 5:17 and James 4:1)
Rom 7:17 and now, it is no longer I that work it, but the sin dwelling in me.
When Adam chose to disobey the command of Elohim (to not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil); the light of eternal life that was in his blood left him. This act of deliberate disobedience allowed the seed of the knowledge of evil to be planted in the darkness. Adam’s blood was corrupted.
We inherited this condition from Adam and Chava (Eve). The condition of two seeds produces a controversy in us, which is having to discerning good from evil. (Gen 3:22); “And YHWH Elohim said, “See, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil”. And now, lest he put his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”. This is a horrible condition; but it became much better when the Torah was given at Mt. Sinai. From then on, we have a way to know the will of Elohim from the works of satan. Torah is a restoration of the truth that was lost when the sin of the Garden occurred. Paul says Torah came in so that sin might be recognized (Romans 7:7). As I said above; YHWH doesn’t change (Malachi 3:6) and satan doesn’t either. When YHWH gave us a definition for sin it is always valid. The definition of sin can’t change.
After Torah was given, we could discern good from evil. The pure seed of Elohim that knows only good and cannot sin, was tainted by presence of the knowledge of evil that came in because of the sin of the Garden. This is still a problem today. We anxiously await the removal of the knowledge of evil.
It is so interesting that Job knew all this before Torah. He was so close to those who knew these things, but as time went on these understandings were lost and sin increased on the earth. In Galatians 3:19-22 this is explained.
Jas 4:7 So then subject yourselves to Elohim. Resist the devil and he shall flee from you.
It is very important that we subject ourselves to YHWH (again see Duet. 30 which is speaking to us today) and not to the evil inclination that still dwells in us.
Being deceived is missing the mark for us. We don’t want to be deceived by him. Paul is explaining this in Romans chapter 7. John is telling us how it works in 1 John chapter 1 thru 5. Paul tells us to take every thought captive (2 Cor. 5:4-6). I have attached an addendum to the end of this article with much more detail about sin and how YHWH views different types of sin.
I have gone through all this to show something satan is doing today. The lack of the knowledge of our true identity is destroying our people, especially our youth. What satan (referred to as the devil in Jas 4:7) does when we have been deceived by him; he tries to project his sin (darkness) onto us. If we receive it, then it will manifest in us causing chaos. We are trying to put that sin into our spirit where there is nothing but light. Darkness will not go into light. The two can’t occupy the same space at the same time. The manifestation of trying to put the two together is chaos. Which in a person manifest as guilt and feelings of unworthiness. At this point, satan has stolen your identity. You can only serve one Master at a time. Our identity is the new creation that we are, after accepting our redemption. Our New Creation is the seed of Elohim, containing the Spirit, the Light and Everlasting life. If you don’t know your identity, the power and authority that comes with that identity; then satan will try to destroy you with guilt and feelings of unworthiness until you realize how to fight back. The church has fostered this acceptance of sin. Again, willfully turning our bodies over to the evil will bring us again under condemnation as we saw in Romans 8:1, John 3:36 & 1John 2:3. This act puts you out of the presence and protection of YHWH, because you have chosen darkness, (separation from Him).
I first began to understand this when I was reading Irenaeus in his book “Against Heresies”. He said if satan can steal your identity then he has stolen your power. Irenaeus was taught by Polycarp who was taught by John the apostle. So, I like reading his writings. He gives a little more insight into John’s thinking. Paul and John, both in their writings explain the truth of the matter.
An interesting parallel
Something else to take notice of; YHWH has never allowed our sins of ignorance, accidental sins or sins that we have been deceived into allowing to be held against us. On Yom Kippur each year all these types of sins, were put on the head of the scape goat and sent into the wilderness to Azazel.
Is Azazel a place or an entity? There is a mountain by that name in the Judean desert in Israel today.
Something to consider is what is said in the book of Enoch.
1 Enoch, R. H. Charles translation of the Ethiopic book of the Watchers.
Chapter 9
6 Thou sees what Azazel hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth and revealed the eternal secrets which were preserved in heaven, which men were striving to learn:
Chapter 10
8 And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin.
I don’t use extra biblical sources as a rule, but First Enoch appears in the Qumran findings more than some of the canonized books. It was canonized in the Ethiopian bible. Ethiopia was somewhat isolated from Rome, who did not want 1 Enoch in the cannon. The evidence points to it having been credible to the Second Temple Judaism. If we accept First Enoch or not this parallel is interesting. Still, this piqued my interest seeking the truth; because it appears YHWH has never allowed His people Israel to be held responsible for the sins caused by what was taught to men by the evil messengers (angels). Those sins are attributed to Azazel (as stated in Enoch 10:8, Lev. 16:810). That is what we should be doing also whether First Enoch is credible or not; sending the sins of deception to the one they belong to.
As I said early in this article; satan doesn’t change and YHWH doesn’t change. Satan is still trying to project his evil onto humanity. He can’t destroy us it appears, because he wasn’t allowed to destroy Job. Being a defeated foe the only thing he can do now, till his judgment day comes, is to get us to destroy ourselves. He is doing a good job of that.
When we realize that satan is a defeated foe and has no power over us except that which we give him, it is empowering. If this understanding was being taught; it would surely help YHWH’s people that are so caught up in depression (loss of hope, feelings of guilt and unworthiness).
Torah says your blessed if you obey and cursed if you don’t obey?
So now how do we deal with these statements? Torah says you’re blessed if you do YHWH’s Torah (commands, instructions) and cursed if you don’t do them?
There may be some light on this in Duet. 30.
Deu 30:1 “And it shall be, when all these words come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you shall bring them back to your heart among all the nations where YHWH your Elohim drives you,
2 and shall turn back to YHWH your Elohim and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your being, you and your children,3 then YHWH your Elohim shall turn back your captivity, and shall have compassion on you, and He shall turn back and gather you from all the peoples where YHWH your Elohim has scattered you.
4 “If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under the heavens, from there YHWH your Elohim does gather you, and from there He does take you.5 “And YHWH your Elohim shall bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. And He shall do good to you and increase you more than your fathers.
6 “And YHWH your Elohim shall circumcise your heart and the heart of your seed, to love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being, so that you might live,
7 and YHWH your Elohim shall put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.
8 “And you shall turn back and obey the voice of YHWH and do all His commands which I command you today.
9 “And YHWH your Elohim shall make you have excess in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground for good. For YHWH turns back to rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers,
10 if you obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to guard His commands and His laws which are written in this Book of the Torah, if you turn back to YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being.
11 “For this command which I am commanding you today, it is not too hard for you, nor is it far off. (Paul quotes this in Romans 10:6-8, and in so doing Paul identifies Messiah as the Living Word [Commands of the Father]).
12 “It is not in the heavens, to say, ‘Who shall ascend into the heavens for us, and bring it to us, and cause us to hear it, so that we do it?
13 Nor is it beyond the sea, to say, ‘Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, and cause us to hear it, so that we do it?’
14 “For the Word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart – to do it .
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil, (see the parallel in Romans 8:6;) for the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the spirit is life and peace.
It is easy to see that the mind of the spirit is to follow the commandments of YHWH, as witnessed in 8:7; because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim, for it does not subject itself to the Torah of Elohim, neither indeed is it able). 16 in that I am commanding you today to love YHWH your Elohim, to walk in His ways, and to guard His commands, and His laws, and His right-rulings. And you shall live and increase, YHWH your Elohim shall bless you in the land which you go to possess.
Notice that He shall bless us in the land we go to possess. What I’ve seen in the prophetic scriptures about healing of YHWH’s people always is tied to either the re-gathering of His people Israel or when His people Israel are again in the land like above in Duet. 30. Another example of healing of His people is in Isaiah chapter 35 when the land is being healed. Isaiah 35:3 is quoted in Hebrews 12:12; which is speaking of learning from discipline. It talks about Esau selling his birthright for a bowl of stew. Destruction of Edom is in Eze. 35. I only mention Esau, because the destruction of Edom (Esau) begins the great and awesome day of YHWH. This destruction which is mentioned in Isaiah 34:5 is in the great and awesome day of YHWH. The destruction of Edom is also the subject of Ezekiel 35 and all of Obadiah. Jer. 49:7-22 also speaks of the destruction of Edom, quoting Obadiah. Again, in Ezekiel 36 we see YHWH is restoring the promise land and punishing Edom. He is bringing back to the land; all Israel (the ingathering) and blessing them there (Eze. 37). We can know that when Esaw is destroyed and is no longer a threat to his brother Yaakov; there will be a healing of the righteous seed of Abraham. Keep this in mind. Later in the article I’ll show how the healing is equated to the throwing of satan to the earth and him not being able to accuse the brethren anymore. Also take note that the one who has chosen the seed of satan is trying to crush the head of his brother. Just like what Cain did to Able. YHWH says, I have told you the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10 & 48:3).
I could go on with this for a while and do in my article “Stumbling Blocks” and “The Menorah in Prophecy”.
The understanding of prophecy is the tying together of the prophets by their parallels. But here I’m speaking of a time that we can see a healing of Avinu’s (our Father’s) people in scripture.
Something I’ll mention that sheds some light on the times we live in; is a time given to Israel (the northern kingdom) to repent. According to Eze 4:1-5; we were given the punishment time of 390 years. According to multiple witnesses, in Lev. 26, if Israel doesn’t turn back and repent the punishment time will be seven times more. If this punishment time began when the nation of Israel (the northern tribes) was totally destroyed it would have begun in 721 – 22 BCE. Seven times 390 is 2730 years. So that time of punishment would have ended in 2008-9 (these dates could vary a few years, because of different historical reports of dates). This explains why Yahushua came when He did and why He hasn’t come back yet. Look what is happening in the world today. What a witness it is that the punishment time is up. The main thing that was taken away that caused Israel to lose their identity is in Hosea 2:11; And I shall cause all her rejoicing, her festivals, her New Months, and her Sabbaths, even all her appointed times, to cease. All these things being taken away for the punishment time are about maintaining identity. The following proves how important these appointments with Elohim are.
Exo 31:13 “And you, speak to the children of Yisrael, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a signa between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, YHWH, am setting you apart. Footnote: aAlso see Eze_20:12 and Eze_20:20.
Exo 31:14 ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work on it, that being shall be cut off from among His people.
The Hebrew word for the English word sign above is oth. It is where we get the English word oath. I Hebrew it means; a sign, an identifying mark upon you! Also, all of Elohim’s Sabbaths listed in Leviticus Chapter 23 are called mikra moedim, which means festive appointments in English. For two thousand years we have been missing our appointments with Elohim.
Now that the punishment time is up all Israel, not just Judah, are waking up and coming back to their true identity. Israel is re-claiming the Gift of Shabbats and by doing so regaining her identity. So, what we see in Duet 30 is happening before our eyes.
Continuing with how do blessings, (if you obey) and curses, (if you don’t obey) work with all discussed so far?
What was the status of blessings and curses during the punishment time? Who can say for sure? Just looking at what we have scripturally seen, the daily offerings were for the unknown and accidental sins of Israel. Torah says that it becomes sin in you when you know it (Lev. chapters 4 & 5). The daily offerings were to temporarily atone for those sins until they were recognized. Yahushua’s offering which removed the penalty for the sin of Adam and bought all humanity out of the kingdom of darkness was for all sin. His continued intercession for us is not for deliberate sin after we have accepted His redemption: It is for the unknown sins, sins of ignorance and missing the mark through sins of deception. After being cleansed we must recognize, ask forgiveness, repent (turn away) and continue to follow the commands of YHWH in obedience; for Yahushua to continue to intercede for us (see addendum for more understanding on this). But did that atonement keep the result of the disobedience from coming? I believe that in Duet. 28 and 29 YHWH were not prescribing curses for Israel’s disobedience, but describing the natural results (consequences) of the disobedience. When Adam, Cain and all Israel sinned; YHWH didn’t curse them, but the ground was cursed in each case. He allowed the consequences of their actions to come upon them. It doesn’t seem that YHWH curses His chosen people, but instead punishes them (as a parent would do). The destruction that follows disobedience is a natural result of the disobedience. Certainly, His light can’t dwell in a cursed human. It is my understanding His light dwells in the human doing YHWH commands, seeking His truth and one that has accepted His Messiah as their Kinsman Redeemer who came in the flesh. The ones who choose His seed over the seed of satan.
What I see is that the curse on the land is a natural result of men’s disobedience. We were created from the awfawr, adamah, (the dust of the earth). So is our flesh subject to the natural results of disobedience, even if we are not aware that we have been disobedient in our redeemed state? If we were being held in a partial blindness (Romans 11:25) as punishment; then would we be partially protected from our unknown sins? What is the punishment that the House of Israel has endured for 2730 years?
It seems that the punishment was and is being partially out from under the covering. We can look at Judah first, because we can identify a remnant of them. They have suffered greatly (like Job) to preserve Torah on this earth. But they also have been blessed in so many ways that are miraculous enough that no one can deny their blessings that came from YHWH. If we look at Ephrayim (also known as the House of Israel; the northern kingdom – descendants of the lost tribes) as being mostly held in the incubator of Christianity; we can see the same thing. So, maybe this is the way it worked until the punishment time was up and we will be all regathered. If you have a better idea, please share it. Certainly, all of Elohim’s people have been suffering wasting diseases for the last 2000+ years; but at the same time prospering greatly as a whole. Duet 30:1 “ It shall be when all these words come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and shall bring them back to your heart among all the nations where YHWH drives you”. Notice that the blessings and the curses have come upon us in the nations where He has driven us.
So basically, we have had something in common with Job. We have been forced by these maladies or negative circumstances to do the same thing Job did. To acknowledge regardless of what is happening, whether we understand it or not; YHWH is in complete control. In the end, it will be for the good of His Kingdom’s restoration. Our hope, as Job’s, is not allowing our identity to be in this fleshly life of Adam (this body formed from the dust of the earth); but in the resurrection to come (as the immortal incorruptible body). Therefore, making us, as Job, Judah and Yahushua were; witnesses that there are those that serve YHWH out of love, obedience and compassion for His creation; not for earthly fleshly gain. Remember that the fallen Angles chose fleshly desires over their heavenly estate. So, don’t lose heart, the time of our physical restoration comes right behind our spiritual restoration that is happening as I write this.
Just sort of a last thought on all this came to me which I’ll share. What governs when we will no longer see righteous people suffering? This thought occurred to me; these people are witnesses against the accuser. When satan is thrown down and can no longer accuse the brethren; He knows his time is short (Rev. 12 and Daniel 12). There is no longer a need to prove the accuser wrong; because he can no longer accuse us. It’s over for him. We have all proved him wrong when we continue to worship YHWH despite bad things happening to us. So now he comes down with great wrath. When he sees he can’t destroy the woman who bore the Male Child (Yahudah, the House of Judah); he will come after us, the remnant (Ephraim, the northern 10 tribes; also known as the House of Israel) of her seed (Rev. 12:13-17). It’s all he has left. This is spiritual warfare! Paul tells us to expect it to be just that. Satan will continue trying to get us to except his sin and negate our power over him. But Michael will be standing up for us, just as he stood up against satan for Moshe’s body. Who is Moshe’s body now? Could it be those following the law of Moshe, i.e. Torah? Michael simply said YHWH rebuke you satan (Jude 1:9). In other words, you have no authority here. We can say the same thing and go on about our business of being the light of YHWH in this depraved world. He doesn’t have any authority or power over the seed of YHWH, that seed which dwells within us (1 John 3:9, 1 Peter 1:23 & Romans 8:9-11)
What I have learned from Job
To sum up what I have learned from the story of Job in a few lines, I’ll begin with, understanding what makes a person perfect and upright before YHWH. The first thing is belief that YHWH will do what He says He will do. This sounds pretty simple on the surface, but we need to define the depth of this kind of belief. So, we are all on the same page. Belief as defined by Job is, The Heavenly Father is in total control of every aspect of His creation (including us). The ultimate outcome of every action and reaction in all His creation will be for the good, and lead to the complete restoration of His Reign on this earth (This is The Good News). Whether, we understand or not how this is working; we know the ripple effect will somehow be for good. We continue to believe YHWH is in total control. Notice that Job asked YHWH why these things had come upon him. YHWH gave Job a lengthy talk, but never answered Job’s question. Again, Job’s response proves the strength and depth of his belief. He said after YHWH stopped talking:
Job 42:1 And Job answered YHWH and said,
Job 42:2 You know that You are able to do all, and that no purpose is withheld from You.
Job 42:3 Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I declared but I did not understand, matters too marvelous for me, which I did not know.
Job 42:4 Listen, please, and let me speak. I ask You, then would You make it known to me?
Job 42:5 I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Job 42:6 Therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
Job accepted that YHWH didn’t answer him. He understood that the whole thing was too marvelous for him to understand and was content to return to his ashes. He accepted his plight; but knew that he had been righteous (defined by his defense of himself as; caring for the widows, orphans, and poor and having his doors open continually to the sojourners).
Job also believes he can have a relationship with YHWH and not be afraid to say what he thinks.
Exploring fear and how it effects our belief
It seems that fear in some cases is the opposite of belief. Not the fear of Elohim as we’ll see below. When we don’t believe YHWH will do what He says He will do, then we will end up trying to do His work ourselves. Why would we do this? The answer is disbelief. If we believe completely, He will do what He says He will do; we should have the Shalom (perfect peace and everything good) knowing He will do what He says He will do. And the comfort of knowing we don’t have to deal with these things He says He will do. He says He goes before us and is our rear guard (Isa. 52:12); For you shall not come out in haste, nor go in flight. For YHWH is going before you, and the Elohim of Yisrael is your rear guard.
Isa. 49:22 Thus said the Master YHWH, “See, I lift My hand up to the nations, and set up My banner for the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters carried on their shoulders;
Isa 49:23 “And sovereigns shall be your foster fathers, and their sovereignesses your nursing mothers. They bow down to you with their faces to the earth and lick up the dust of your feet. And you shall know that I am YHWH those who wait for Me shall not be ashamed.”).
We have to truly believe YHWH is in total control of His creation all the time.
If this is how it works, then how do we reconcile this statement: the beginning of wisdom is the fear of YHWH? The different words for fear as discussed on page 5 need to be looked at to see what they really mean in context. The word in this statement for fear is Strong’s Definition: H3373, pronounced yaw–ray, a reverent fear. The translators translate different words as fear (as discussed on page 5) leaving us to think whatever our preconceived idea of what fear means “for fear of YHWH”. There are different words for fear with different meanings.
The first mentioning of fear in Torah is Gen. 9:2. It was how the beast would feel towards Adam so that the beast would be subject to him. So, this fear as described in Strong’s Definition: H4172 pronounced morah, as; fear, reverence, terror; a. fear, terror b. reverence, c. object of reverence, awe-inspiring spectacle or deed. (Strong’s is showing how the word is translated in different places). How is there Shalom in the Garden of Eden, when the beast sees or hear Adam; do they experience terror? It’s obvious that terror will not fit this context. In context, an object of reverence would fit much better. So, yaw-ray and morah (above) are very similar in that aspect.
As mentioned on page 6 above; the fear for Strong’s Definition: H1204, pronounced bawath, was a sudden terror type of fear. The kind of fear you would have if a tiger jumped out in front of you. The kind of fear you would have of an enemy; instead of the kind of loving respect fear you would have for your father. Bawath is the kind of fear that comes from not believing that YHWH will do what He says He will.
What is lost when we don’t believe Him and try to do it ourselves is Shalom (perfect peace). Job describes the fear of YHWH (as an object of reverence) as wisdom. To turn from evil as understanding. Then according to Job 28:28 the belief and obedience of keeping YHWH’s commands is understanding. Believing with obedience to do YHWH commands brings Shalom (perfect peace). Job didn’t even have the Torah promises, yet he believed. Now we do have the Torah promises. I’ll say once more, read Duet: 30. It was written to us today, read it and believe it without a doubt. He says in multiple books of prophecy that He will gather us. I read recently in a Jewish article on the geulah (redemption), the Tanak has seventy verses about re-gathering all Israel to the promise land. That means that we can have Shalom knowing He will gather us. Wait on Him and quit trying to figure out how to do His work. Instead of fearing, let your Shalom be a light to those that are in fear.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear holds punishment, and he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
(It is very important to recognize that the spirit of bondage is fear).
Luke 1:50 His compassion is from generation to generation to those who fear Him. (this fear is a reverent fear not terror)
Did the apostles believe the same as Job? Here are a few witnesses.
The strength of the Apostles faith was not in this flesh, but in the transformation to come. They were looking forward to being like Yahushua and living forever. This is the same belief Job had.
- Isa 56:5 to them I shall give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters – I give them an everlasting name that is not cut off.
- Mat 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because your reward in the heavens is great. For in this way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
- John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of Elohim, to those believing in His Name.
- Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (I say again, it is very important to recognize that the spirit of bondage is fear). Luke 1:50 His compassion is from generation to generation to those who fear (Strong’s H3373 yaw-ray morally reverent) Him. Not those who disregard His redemption and sin on purpose.
- Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the esteem that is to be revealed in us.
- 2Co 4:17 For this slight momentary pressure is working for us a far more exceeding and everlasting weight of esteem.
- Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of Elohim through belief in Messiah Yahushua.
- Gal 4:6 And because you are sons, Elohim has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”
- Phi 3:21 who shall change our lowly body, to be conformed to His esteemed body, according to the working by which He is able even to bring all under His control.
- Col 3:4 When the Messiah, who is our life, is manifested, then, you also shall be manifested with Him in esteem.
Let us believe He will care for us, and just go about being lights in whatever community He puts us in by exhibiting the nine attributes contained in the fruit of the spirit (Gal 5:22) and caring for the widows, orphans, the poor and sojourners. Amen.
Shalom mishpocah
Jeremiah Chapter 8
8 “How do you say, ‘We are wise, and the Torah of YHWH is with us’? But look, the false pen of the scribe has worked falsehood.
9 “The wise shall be put to shame, they shall be broken down and caught. See, they have rejected the Word of YHWH ,so what wisdom do they have?
Addendum
I am attaching the following as an addendum because it is a second witness to the destruction caused by satan through translations. I am certainly not qualified to be a translator, but anyone can see what is being said in the following with the tools we all have. Much of what is said in the following has already been said above because they were written separately. The things that are repeated are worth repeating. I hope the following is edifying for the mishpocah.
Translations that cause confusion
This article is to show how different Greek words translated to one word in English causes confusion and ultimately leads to misunderstandings that can leave us without some very important information. Information in the book of 1 John that is pertinent to understanding not only our redeemed identity, but also understanding how YHWH views different transgressions of Torah.
In 1 John chapters 1 thru 5 John says things that seem contradictory. He says if you say you don’t have sin, the Truth is not in you. Again, if you say you don’t sin you make Him a liar. Then in chapter 3, he says, if you sin you have no part in Him and it is impossible for you to sin? Then in 1John 5 there is a sin unto death and sin not unto death. How does all this work together?
Here is my perception of what is going on in 1 John. I think that the key to understanding what John is saying, lies in finding a correct translation. There are several words translated as sin in the Brit Hadashah (known as the new testament in christianity), but each time in 1 John these different words for sin are translated the same even though they have different meanings. They are translated as just sin, which leaves us to think whatever our preconceived notion of the meaning of the word sin is.
There are 33 words translated as sin in the Greek to be exact, but they all derive from a basic ten words. So, there are ten basic words for sin, but in different context there can be as many as 33 different understandings. And they are all translated sin. It is interesting that we have The Ten Words (The Ten Commandments) from YHWH that describe what sin is and ten words for sin in Greek.
It is important to see what the actual meanings of these words translated as sin in John’s writings are to be able to understand him. Fortunately, John only uses two of these words for sin in 1 John chapters 1 through 5. Here is a short basic version of what these two each mean.
The first one is Thayer’s # G266, pronounced hamartia, which we will see in 1 John 3:4 is willful disobedience, deliberately knowingly disobeying Elohim’s Torah (lawlessness).
The second is Thayer’s # G264, pronounced hamartano, it is to be without a share in, because of missing the mark by accidentally sinning, by being deceived into sinning or to sin out of ignorance.
These two different words are related but are not the same. For instance, the above two words for sin, are both transgressions of the Torah, but that is where the similarity ends. As we’ll see there is a huge difference in how YHWH sees these two different transgressions of His Torah.
At a quick glance, you can see that knowingly transgressing YHWH’s Torah is not the same as veering off the path by accident, out of ignorance or even by deception (being deceived into following the wrong path). Chava (Eve) was deceived by satan, but Adam wasn’t. Look at the results of Adam’s knowingly going forward with an act that he knew was forbidden by YHWH. This is one of the two most destructive acts for humanity. With the second being the sons of Elohim (angles) creating offspring with the daughters of men. Through these women, teaching every evil to men, such as war, the making of weapons, the art of seduction, the evil use of herbs for potions and witchcraft etc. Correcting these two transgressions is the whole purpose of YHWH sending His Son to this earth to be born as the 2nd Adam, and at the same time being the Son of Elohim. We were shown how Yahushua’s redemption would work by the binding of Issac. What was provided then by YHWH to replace the blood of Issac was the blood of a ram with a crown of thorns. The ram being the strong leader of the flock. The ram was bound by YHWH in the thorns and Issac was bound by his father in the same manner.
Both the first Adam and the second Adam were born of the Spirit. In the case of the angles that violated their estate and went down and bore children with human women, these offspring had the spirit of the angles and the life of the women. But not the same spirit as Yahushua was born of. He was born of the emanated Spirit of His Father and the angles spirit created by the Father. So, we needed one born of the seed of Elohim to correct the evil of the offspring of the angels that were born of the seed of satan. One seed being the pure light of Elohim and other being the forbidden seed of mixture, the seed of darkness. This is the same thing that happened to Adam and Chava when they ate of the forbidden fruit. The fruit was forbidden because it violated Torah by having two different seeds in one fruit. Which left them to fall into the kingdom of darkness. Yahushua’s righteous life not only redeemed us from the curse of sin and death but also empowered us to overcome the kingdom of darkness.
With these things in mind, we can move forward, looking at the difference in how YHWH views and deals with these two different types of sin, G266 hamartia (resulting in death, the kingdom of darkness” which is separation from YHWH) and G264 hamartano (as we’ll see does not result in our death, but is attributed to satan and his followers).
The only way to know how to translate these two very different words is to understand the context of the statements being made. Below I’ll discuss the two different words and their meanings in more depth. I separate them in my mind, at the very basic level as deliberate disobedience #G266 and accidental transgression or transgressing out of ignorance or deception #G264.
What is interesting is Thayer’s #G266 hamartia as used in 1 John refers you back to Thayer’s #G264 hamartano for its meaning? A young man that is a graduate of a bible college said that #G264 was a verb and #G266 was a noun, so they both meant the same thing. Let’s see how that works out as we continue.
In other words, Thayer’s is saying they have the same meanings. Which is plainly not correct by simply looking at the context of what John says in 1 John 3:4. There Thayer’s #G266, is used as a sin described as lawlessness.
It is easy to see in 1 John 5:16 there is a sin unto death (Thayer’s #G266), and there is a sin not unto death (Thayer’s #264). It is impossible for # G266 (lawlessness) to mean the same thing as # G264 (missing the mark).
Now we will look at those scriptures that give us the definition of #G266 hamartia. 1 John 3:4 as follows.
“Everyone doing sin (#G266 hamartia) also does lawlessness (#G458 anomia) and sin (#G266 hamartia) is lawlessness (#G458 anomia)”. So, this type of sin is “lawlessness”. The Thayer’s definition of lawlessness is: #G458 anomia (1) condition of without law (a) because of ignorant of it (b) because of violating it. (2)
Contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness. To further understand lawlessness, we will look at Matt 13:41 in a little bit. This is describing what is going to happen when Yahushua harvests the wheat and removes the darnel (tares).
To further prove this definition in 1 John 5:16, we have two different types of sin, as said above; sins unto death and sins that are not unto death. In this case both words for sin are nouns. The sins that are unto death are Thayer’s Definition #266, pronounced hamartia. The sins that are not unto death are Thayer’s Definition #264, pronounced hamartano. As we move on, we’ll see that YHWH does not attribute sins that are not unto death to us; but He attributes them and their punishment to satan and his followers. The sin of Adam was a sin unto death, because he was not deceived. Yet he went forward transgressing the word of YHWH anyway as said above.
Why would YHWH attribute sins not unto death to satan? This is how I understand it. If you have a young son and someone teaches him to throw rocks through a glass window. The child has no way of knowing at this point that what he did was destructive and would have negative effects on the house and everyone in it. So, what does the father do? He disciplines his son with love and explains to him what the end results of his action would be. He would then go after the one who taught him this and remove him. The fault is not with the ignorant one, but with the one teaching evil to the innocent. This is exactly the situation that satan has created in YHWH’s children through his rebellious ways and deception of Chava. Also, through all the evil things taught to the daughters of Adam by the angles (Gen. 6:1-4) who violated their estate, descended to earth and mixed their seed with the daughters of men (Genesis 6:1-5, Jude verse 6 and 2 Peter 2:4). These last two verses acknowledge that
Peter and Jude were aware of the destruction brought on humanity by this violation of YHWH’s boundaries. These angles left their estate and descended to that which was forbidden.
For an interesting parallel, Judah left his estate and descended to Canaan and had children with a Canaanite woman. She was from Ham’s descendants, a cursed people. Then he lost his first and second born sons. Elimelek, Naomi’s husband left the land of Judah, his estate, and descended to Edom with his two sons because there was a scarcity of food in the land. His sons married women of Edom. A forbidden people. Both his first and second born sons died.
King David descended to a forbidden woman. Another man’s wife. He lost four sons, Amon, Absalom, and the first offspring of his encounter with Bathsheba.
These angles that left their estate and descended to the daughters of men and bore children with them lost all their sons because this mixture wasn’t just a chosen people mixing with a cursed people, but two totally different creations.
There is a reoccurring principle here. Don’t leave your estate and have children with women that are forbidden or cursed.
In Hebrew idolatry and adultery are considered the same. So, when the tribe of Judah descended to worship the idols of their neighboring nations, they lost two temples.
Notice here that the seed of the watchers (fallen messengers) is their divine spirit in rebellion (divine meaning it was created in the heavens to be in the heavens) and they sowed it in humanity, the daughters of Adam. In 1 John 3:9 YHWH’s seed dwells in us, which is the divine spirit of perfection from our Father in heaven through His Son. Yahushua’s spirit was not created, but He was emanated from YHWH our heavenly Father as said above. Now we will read the parable of the wheat and tares in Matthew 13.
24 Another parable He put before them, saying, “The reign of the heavens has become like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
25 but while men slept, his enemy (adversary-satan) came and sowed darnel among the wheat and went away. Notice who came in at night (darkness) and sowed his seed darnel (tares) that is poison to humans.
36 Then, having sent the crowds away, Yahushua went into the house. And His taught ones came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel of the field.”
37 And He answering, said to them, He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Adam,
38 and the field is the world. And the good seed, these are the sons of the reign, but the darnel are the sons of the wicked one,
39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the messengers.
40 “As the darnel, then, is gathered and burned in the fire, so it shall be at the end of this age.
41 “The Son of Adam shall send out His messengers, and they shall gather out of His reign all the stumbling blocks, and those doing lawlessness.
#G266, hamartia is also the word used to describe the evil of satan that caused his fall in Ezekiel 28 verses 17 & 18. You must look in the Septuagint to see this. You won’t see it in an English translation.
Lawlessness is Thayer’s #G266 hamartia used in 1 John 3:4, the same sin word in 1 John 5:18 described as the sin unto death also shown above. When Adam fell, because He committed a sin unto death, the sons of Adam were sold into the kingdom of darkness. So satan, himself is the prince of the kingdom of darkness, because of his rebellion against Elohim. He came in and planted his seed (the knowledge of evil) in YHWH’s field (humanity, the sons of Adam). After Adam’s sin the light was not in humanity to overcome the darkness. Again, I say these were the reasons for the coming of Yahushua; to restore that light in humanity. A light that will overcome the darkness of satan and his teachings. The seed of satan cannot be planted in a human that has the seed of YHWH (the spirit, life eternal, the light and the truth are all in that seed) in them. The Spirit we now have is emanated from our Father in Heaven. It is superior to the spirit of satan and all the other angles that was created. Now, the Spirit of YHWH (Our Father in Heaven) and His Son is in us.
So now, it is plain to see these two words translated as sin are opposites even though they both are violations of the Torah. Deliberate sin which is unto death is attributed to us and sins not unto death are attributed to satan who will suffer the consequences of those sins that he taught and through deception caused men to allow. YHWH will forgive our deliberate sin when we confess it (recognize, ask forgiveness and repent); but after that confession we are bound to follow in obedience. Since there is no offering to atone for deliberate sin there is a price for it as we see in the case of King David. Yahushua only continues to intercede for our sins described in Thayer’s #G264 as we will see in the following (1 John 2:1). His redemption was for all sins but His continued intercession is not (1 John 2:1).
Thayer’s full definition for hamartano, #G264, is as follows; to be without a share in, to miss the mark, to err be mistaken, to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honor, to do or go wrong), to wander from the law of Elohim, violate Elohim’s law, sin. That is a lot but is easy to see this is not willful deliberate disobedience. It will result in correction, but not death because Yahushua will intercede for these sins and take them to satan.
In Thayer’s explanation of how #G264 is translated, the first meaning listed is to be without a share in, then secondly to miss the mark. What would we be without a share in, for missing the mark? The only thing I can think of is YHWH’s Kingdom and the promises. Thayer’s exhaustive concordance agrees with my thoughts on this.
Thayer’s definition for #G264 is to be without a share in, to miss the mark, to err, be mistaken, to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honor, to do or go wrong, to wander from the law of God, violate God’s law, sin; Origin: perhaps from #G1 (as a negative particle) and as the base of #G3313; parts of speech : verb. Perhaps from #G1 properly to miss the mark (and so not to share in the prize), that is, (figuratively) to err, especially (morally) to sin: for your faults, offend, sin, trespass.
All the information above should be enough to see that these are two different words and have two totally different meanings, but the translators have given them the same meaning.
I believe the translator is missing the context of what is being said or was purposely leaving it ambiguous. It becomes confusing and contradictory when you don’t use the two separate meanings.
I’ll show you what I mean; if we let the context show us the meaning of each. There is a lot going on, so please just take your time and look at each thing I say, reading the referenced Scriptures as you go. And have a Thayer’s Greek Lexicon handy if possible. E-swords and My swords both have Thayer’s and Strong’s lite available. You can access it online in Blue Letter Bible as well.
These five chapters, 1 John chapters 1 through 5, along with Romans chapter 7 and 2 Cor. 12:7 are crucial to understanding our new identity. This comes with the accepting of Yahushua and following in obedience. There is great freedom and power that come with that new creation.
Now let’s creep through the uses of these two sin words in 1 John chapters 1 through 3.
In 1 John 1:8 if we say we have no sin, (hamartia, #G266 deliberate sin), we are misleading ourselves, and the Truth (Yahushua the Word) is not in us.
What 1 John 1:8 is really saying, if we say we have not been lawless and violated YHWH’s Torah laws, at times knowingly; we are misleading ourselves. Everyone has.
We see next , as said above, Yahushua’s deliverance is for all sin. Even deliberate sin if we confess it. We have already seen in verse 8 that we are misleading ourselves to say we have not committed deliberate sin.
In 1 John 1:9, if we confess our sins (hamartia, #G266, deliberate sin), He is trustworthy to forgive us our sins (hamartia, #G266, again) and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This cleansing was for the whole world that will accept Yahushua and follow him in obedience.
In the following King James translation hamartano, #G264 appears twice in verse 10. Why? I’ll use context to show how we can make sense out of what is said.
In every translation I have, only one of the two words for sin appear, but this one King James translation has sin in it twice. The first word for sin is not translated at all in the verse. When you put both in using “missing the mark” for the first occurrence of sin and for the second occurrence use “not having a share in the prize (the Kingdom promises) what follows makes perfect sense.
1 John 1:10 If G1437 we say G2036 that G3754 we have G264 not G3756 sinned G264, we make G4160 him G846 a liar G5583, and G2532 His G846 Word G3056 is G2076 not G3756 in G1722 us G2254.
So as mentioned above, by using the second definition of hamartano, #G264 in Thayer’s for the first appearance of hamartano, #G264 “to miss the mark” And use the first understanding of this word in Thayer’s “to have no share in the Kingdom” for the second appearance, I came up with the translation of verse 10 as follows. To ignore the two appearances of sin or to even try to translate both by the same meaning causes the verse not to fit with verses in 1 John Chapters 2 and 3, as we’ll see next.
1 John 1:10 if we say we have missed the mark and therefore have no share in the Kingdom and promises, we make Him a liar, and the Word is not in us.
Again, The Word is Yahushua.
Why would our saying, we have no share in the Kingdom, because we missed the mark make Him a liar? Because He died to redeem us from all sin. He was trustworthy and righteous to forgive all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Through His death and resurrection, we were cleansed of all types of sin. After receiving this cleansing, we cannot return to lawlessness and have Him to intercede for us with the Father. By looking again to 1 John 5:16 to see this type of sin leads to death, also John 3:36. We are not to even pray for someone of our spiritual family doing lawlessness how much more someone that hates YHWH. In trying to understand why we would make Him a liar by saying we have no share in the Kingdom for missing the mark. Yahushua went through all He did, so we do not lose our share in the Kingdom promises for missing the mark because He cleansed us of all sin. His continued intercession is not for deliberate sin (#G266 lawlessness). If we miss the mark by allowing satan to manifest in our temple then we must recognize, ask forgiveness and repent for missing the mark but we don’t lose our share in the promises. To say so would lose our share in the kingdom promises would mean Yahushua’s work was for nothing, therefore making Him a liar.
Next, we’ll see how this new translation of 1 John 1:10 flows through to 1 John 2:1 as follows.
1 John 2:1 My little children I write this to you so that you do not sin (#G264 miss the mark). And if anyone sins (#G264 misses the mark) we have an intercessor (a prophet like Moses) with the Father, Yahushua Messiah, a righteous One.
Overview of the above
We have all sinned, even deliberate sin (1 John 1:8).
Once we have confessed our sins (1 John 1:9), even deliberate sins; He was righteous to forgive us these sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we continue in obedience; He intercedes for us with His Father and our Father for missing the mark through sin (accidental, out of ignorance or by deception). So, we don’t lose our share in the Kingdom promises; because Yahushua is interceding for us for these types of sin and attributes them to the one that caused us to miss the mark (1 John 1:10).
1 John 2:3, by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His commands (we can’t continue breaking His commands after He has interceded and atoned for us). For a second witness, John 3:36; He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Elohim remains on him. Belief must be followed with continued obedience to YHWH’s commands.
What John is saying in 1 John Chapters 1 thru 5; 1:8 is our condition before redemption, 1:9 is redemption, 1:10 is after redemption, 2:1 is what His continued intercession is for, 3:4 says sin is lawlessness, 3:9 is our redeemed identity, and 5:16-20 further describes which sins bring death and which ones don’t because of Yahushua’s continued intercession. In these verses we can further see our new identity.
James Chapter 2
17 So also, belief, if it does not have works, is in itself dead.
18 But someone might say, “You have belief, and I have works.” Show me your belief without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works.
19 You believe that Elohim is one. You do well. The demons also believe – and shudder!
20 But do you wish to know, O foolish man, that the belief without the works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father declared right by works when he offered Yitsḥaq his son on the slaughterplace?
22 Do you see that the belief was working with his works, and by the works the belief was perfected?
Romans 2:13; for not the hearers of the Torah (law) are declared righteous in the sight of Elohim, but the doers of the Torah (law) shall be declared right. So, unrighteousness (lawlessness) is violation of the Torah laws of Elohim.
Second witness is 1 John 3:4 shown above and Duet. 6:25: And it is righteousness for us, when we guard to do all this command before YHWH our Elohim, as He has commanded us.
Romans 8:7 Because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim, for it does not subject itself to the Torah of Elohim, neither indeed is it able.
Righteousness appears in Psalms 77 times. Read them all. When finished you will have a better understanding of righteousness.
A look at all Romans 8
Something to understand; we have dwelling in us both the good inclination and the evil inclination (the knowledge of good and of evil). Thankfully, the good inclination is dominate over the evil. The evil that dwells in us is continually trying to deceive us into letting it manifest in our temple (body). When we allow the deceiving nature to manifest in our temple, as said above; we have missed the mark. Then we must recognize, ask forgiveness for allowing this, repent (turn away) and then continue resisting the evil (taking every thought captive). Satan uses his seed (the knowledge of evil) that dwells in us as his tool to destroy us; if we don’t understand our identity. Satan’s seed is in YHWH’s field (humanity), but it is not a part of us. The very statement “the evil dwells in us” shows it only dwells in us and is not a part of us.
Paul’s understanding of what is going on is as follows in Romans chapter 7;
15 For what I work, I know not. For what I wish, that I do not practice, but what I hate, that I do. (xref-1 Gal. 5:17).
16 But if I do what I do not wish, I agree with the Torah that it is good.
17 And now, it is no longer I that work it, but the sin dwelling in me.
18 For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good. For to wish is present with me, but to work the good I do not find.
19 For the good that I wish to do, I do not do; but the evil I do not wish to do, this I practice.
20 And if I do that which I do not wish, it is no longer I who work it, but the sin dwelling in me.
The key words here are “I do not wish to do”. If you wish to do the evil there is no intercession for you by Yahushua.
(Parallel the above with 1 John 3:5-10 as follows).
5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
6 Everyone staying in Him does not sin. Everyone sinning has neither seen Him nor known Him.
7 Little children let no one lead you astray. The one doing righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.
8 The one doing sin is of the devil, because the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of Elohim was manifested: to destroy the works of the devil.
9 Everyone having been born of Elohim does not sin, because His seed stays in him, and he is powerless to sin, because he has been born of Elohim.
10 In this the children of Elohim and the children of the devil are manifest: Everyone not doing righteousness is not of Elohim, neither the one not loving his brother. (See the definition of righteousness above.)
2Co 12:7 And to keep me from exalting myself because of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to hit me, to keep me from exalting myself.
2Co 12:8 Concerning this I pleaded with the Master three times to take it away from me.
2Co 12:9 And He said to me, “My favor is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, then, I shall rather boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Messiah rests on me.
Why is this thorn in our side? Paul asked three times to have a thorn to be removed from him, and YHWH’s answer was; My favor is enough for you lest you become proud. With my understanding, it is a constant reminder of who we belong to and that we could have never achieve salvation by works. Paul explains as follows; Gal 2:20 “I have been impaled with Messiah, and I no longer live, but Messiah lives in me.b And that which I now live in the flesh I live by belief in the Son of Elohim, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Footnote: b Rom. 8:10, 2 Co. 6:16, 2 Co. 13:5, Eph. 3:17, Col. 1:27, 1Jn. 4:4. Without these reminders, we might think to highly of ourselves like satan did and rebel against YHWH. YHWH doesn’t attribute these sins to us; but to the one that does them, satan the devil (1 John 3:7-8 and Romans 7:15-17). Yahushua has intervened and intercedes for us on these types of sin with His Father and our Father (1 John 2:1 & Romans 8:34).
Why is understanding all this so important for us? Because we need to know what our identity is. We are not fleshly beings once we are redeemed through the acceptance of Yahushua Messiah as our Kinsman Redeemer. We are spiritual beings. At that moment, we are a new creation. We were given the seed of Elohim (1 John 3:9) that dwells in our fleshly body, called the Spirit of the Father and the son (Romans 8:9) and the mind of Messiah (1 Cor. 2:16). These fleshly bodies, after redemption, are our temples of Elohim (2 Cor. 5:1 & 2 Peter 1:13). It is impossible for the seed of Elohim to sin (1 John 3:9). It is our responsibility to not allow the evil to manifest in our temples, as anger, hate or any other evil (Gal 5:19-21). But if we allow a sin not unto death, we have one who intercedes for us, Yahushua Messiah (1 John 2:1). The sin is not ours; but belongs to the evil that dwells in us (Romans 7:15-20) that we allow to manifest.
Satan wants us to own his sin. He is projecting his sin onto us; just as he did with Job. When we accept the sins of the evil that dwells in us, we are coming into agreement with satan, that we are sinners. Whatever you do; don’t accept his sin (recognize his deception, ask forgiveness and repent for allowing him to manifest in your temple). The manifestation of accepting his sin is guilt and unworthiness. At that point you have no power over him and he knows that. We must repent of allowing the evil to manifest as soon as we realize we have allowed it. We are completely responsible for having allowed the evil to manifest in our temples and will suffer the result (consequences of our actions). Job’s friends were telling Job that he was receiving the wages of a sinner, which is exactly what satan was doing. Job’s friends had to bring offerings to offer before Job and then he would pray for them so that YHWH wouldn’t kill them.
Elohim does not change! The offerings are all to bring us understanding of redemption. Here I want to mention; If we lived in the Yahushua Messiah’s time on earth (before our redemption); when we recognized that we had sinned we would be obligated to take the proper offering. The High Priest ate a part of that offering to show YHWH’s acceptance of your forgiveness. Then you had to bring another offering called a guilt offering. This offering would bring about a removal of your guilt. If your guilt was not removed, you would not be able to return to your normal life and function as He created you to function. This had to be supernatural. This is just a picture of Yahushua interceding for us (1 John 2:1, 1 Timothy 2:5 & Heb. 7:25) and the supernatural removal of the guilt. If we come into agreement with satan that we are the sinners, then satan has negated that supernatural removal of that guilt for the sin we allowed.
He (satan) was and is a defeated foe. His house was left a wreck when Yahushua Messiah descended to sheol (world of darkness) with the light that is eternal life, which is in the blood, still in Him. Then He rose from sheol and was elevated to the throne of Elohim, His Father, to sit at His right hand.
Knowing our true identity helps each of us to understand the spiritual war fare we are in.
Jas 4:7 So then subject yourselves to Elohim. Resist the devil (adversary, evil inclination in us) and he shall flee from you.
YHWH has given us to Yahushua, and nothing can take us from Him.
Rom 8:31 What then shall we say to this? If Elohim is for us, who is against us?
Rom 8:32 Truly, He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up on behalf of us all – how shall He not, along with Him, freely give us all else?
Rom 8:33 Who shall bring any charge against Elohim’s chosen ones? It is Elohim who is declaring right.
Rom 8:34 Who is he who is condemning? It is Messiah who died, and furthermore is also raised up, who is also at the right hand of Elohim, who also makes intercession for us.
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of the Messiah? Shall pressure, or distress, or persecution, or scarcity of food, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Rom 8:36 As it has been written, “For Your sake we are killed all day long, we are reckoned as sheep of slaughter” (Psalms 44:22).
Rom 8:37 But in all this we are more than over-comers through Him who loved us.
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor messengers nor principalities nor powers, neither the present nor the future,
Rom 8:39 nor height nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of Elohim which is in Messiah Yahushua our Master.
The following are promises of the power we will have when satan is thrown out of heaven.
Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who leads all the world astray. He was thrown to the earth, and his messengers were thrown out with him.
Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in the heaven, “Now have come the deliverance and the power and the reign of our Elohim and the authority of His Messiah, for the accuser of our brothers, who accused them before our Elohim day and night, has been thrown down. Footnote: bSee Rev_11:15.
Rev 12:11 “And they overcame him because of the Blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their witness, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Master, even the demons are subject to us in Your Name.”
Luke 10:18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan falling out of the heaven as lightning.
Luke 10:19 “See, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and none at all shall hurt you.
Luke 10:20 “But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names have been written in the heavens.”
It is very interesting that Job believed the very same thing.
If we don’t recognize our identity, do we understand what He did for each one of us?
This understanding of our identity (who we are) is second only to understanding the source of all things including our identity is YHWH. YHWH is in total control of everything that happens, good or evil. Just like Job, we must sometimes say, this is too wonderful for us to understand. It is very important to continue to Praise YHWH no matter what is happening. Even if we don’t understand, our default is Deut. 29:29: The secret matters belong to YHWH our Elohim; but what is revealed belongs to us and to our children forever, to do all the Words of this Torah.
It is my hope at this point, after all we have looked at; Job is no longer some mystery book that we struggle to understand. In seeking to understand the book of Job, we can better understand our identity. And more clearly see the spiritual warfare we are in. Also, it should give us the knowledge to help us to fight these battles. If we recognize what is happening, then the power of YHWH is available to flow through us to fight these battles.
Joshua didn’t give Israel rest (Shalom-Perfect Rest) when they entered the promise land, because they didn’t believe. Right now, we must know completely everything YHWH has said that He will do in these times of redemption. He wants us to succeed. Then and only then, can we have Shalom (Perfect Rest). Because at that point, we can quit trying to do what He said He would do and let Him do it.
When Israel entered the land, He told them He would protect them on all sides and bless them with abundances of everything. But they didn’t believe Him and asked for a fleshly king to rule over them and protect them. All that has happened to Israel (The People – Nation – our forefathers), is for us to learn not only from their righteousness, but also to learn from the mistakes they made.
The most important thing in this whole article is to understand that when we accept satan’s sin as our own; we are coming into agreement with satan. Job never did. YHWH said that everything Job said about Him was right. Job understood what YHWH expected of humanity and knew that didn’t mean we would or could be sinless. Anyone making blood offerings understood the need for redemption. And this recognition of that need made the blood of an innocent animal acceptable for atonement until the Redeemer would come. By having that understanding, Job knew that he was in the will of Avinu by virtue of his belief in the need of redemption (Job 14:14-17 & 19:25-26), and by his love and compassion for YHWH’s creation. Which was witnessed by his good works. His friends were professing what satan was saying (the same thing he is saying now “you’re a sinner”). They had to bring offerings and offer them before Job or die for what they said as said above. Job’s friends were standing daily accusing him just as satan accuses us day and night before YHWH. They were being satan’s advocates.
Isaiah 46:9-10 & 48:3-5 tells us YHWH has shown us the end from the beginning. So, I wondered what Job understood about the beginning that gave him the wisdom of what makes a man perfect before YHWH. Briefly I want to show what I found. Qayin (Cain) gave of the fruit of the ground, which was cursed. Hevel (Able) gave a blood offering of the flock as well as fruit of the ground. Qayin’s offering was not acceptable and Hevel’s was. Why? Hevel was recognizing the need of redemption and atonement. Which would come from the seed that would crush the head of the satan. He offered the blood in leu of his own blood until the Redeemer would come. Also the blood was to atone for the cursed state of the ground so that the minka offering (fruit of the ground was atoned for also. Why? Because of his understanding that he was not capable of redeeming himself. And a blood offering was needed to atone for him until he was redeemed. How did Hevel know what to offer?
He was following what YHWH did. YHWH slayed an innocent animal, shedding its blood, to make a covering (atonement) for Adam and Eve. That covering for Adam and Eve was not just clothes. It was a temporary covering of their sin. The animal was a surrogate for them. He took the animals innocent blood in place of their corrupted blood as atonement till the One would come that would make a permanent atonement through His blood. The one that would crush the head of the serpent (satan). They were afraid because they were naked (without a covering physically and spiritually), not because they heard YHWH’s voice. They knew at that point they had to discern between truth and the lies of deception to keep themselves righteous. The light and eternal life that was in their blood had been removed and they didn’t know what to do next. Their blood that contained their light and the eternal life had been corrupted by mixture. Light and darkness can’t occupy the same space at the same time. The light left them, was their covering if they were obedient. YHWH showed them what to do, until the Seed would come. Cain didn’t see that need and his offering was of that which was cursed. That opened the door for him to accept the seed of satan, therefore imaging satan instead of Avinu Eloah. Not seeing the need for atonement indicates he felt that he could atone for himself. Recognizing the need for atonement was the difference between the one that was imaging Elohim and the one that imaging satan. It appears that Job’s friends didn’t recognize that need either or they would have been making their own offerings instead of having to make them before Job, who understood what was going on.
Job knew all this. Job had to have forgiven his friends to pray for them.
What a man he was.
Avinu give us the understanding and strength of Job in all our trials, Amen.
The end…until we see more…
