Generational Blessings

I am a follower of the Torah of Elohim and a believer in His Son, the Messiah (anointed of Eloah, His Father in Heaven) Yahushua (called Jesus by Christians), who came in the flesh to redeem us from the generational curse of death. This curse was instituted when Adam knowingly disobeyed YHWH’s (the name of our Father in heaven in English letters) command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Through Yahushua’s offering of Himself even unto death, we were elevated out of the kingdom of darkness and given the potential for eternal life. By His blood, our blood was healed.

A BIBLICAL PRINCIPAL

Biblical principles are established by repetitive examples of the same action producing the same result. Adam lost one son who was murdered by his brother and the other to exile for knowingly disobeying YHWH. This type of loss is seen when someone knowingly sins a sin unto death. It is interesting that Cain crushed the head of Abel, which is exactly what the seed of the woman was prophesied to do to the serpent. Cain chose the seed of satan over the seed of YHWH. The seed of satan has been trying to crush the head of the righteous seed of the woman (Chava-Eve) ever since. Esaw came from the womb with his foot on the head of Jacob and is still trying to crush his head.

Other examples of the biblical principle of generational curses are as follows. I have already mentioned Adam losing two sons, his first born and second born. Next is Aaron, who, after the golden calf incident, lost his firstborn and secondborn. Judah descended to a cursed people (Canaan) and took a wife, had three children, and lost his firstborn and secondborn. Elimelek, father-in-law of Ruth, descended to a forbidden people (Moab) and lost his firstborn and secondborn. King David descended to a forbidden woman (another man’s wife) and lost four sons. Notice that illicit sexual relations were involved in the loss of David’s sons, the same type of sin David committed. Also, Aaron’s two sons brought strange fire (not prescribed by YHWH) before the Tabernacle just as Aaron had brought strange fire, attempting to worship YHWH, before an idol. Through this, it can be seen that the sinful acts of the following generations seem to be the same types of sin that the father committed.

I felt compelled to write this small article because I was seeing the destruction that satan was causing in and on the family of YHWH through generational curses. It seemed reasonable that our Father in Heaven would not leave us defenseless against generational curses. This caused me to look at biblical principles related to defending against these curses. To start, it is evident that if there is no evil, there is no curse. This is where I began, and what I have seen I will share. I will also share a very personal situation that without a doubt proves there is help in the Word (Yahushua). So, let us get started.

Yahushua is our model for righteousness

I will begin with Yahushua since He is our model for dealing with sin and evil. When satan tempted Yahushua at a very weak point, He did not say, “I rebuke you, satan.” Instead, He quoted scriptures to satan. The scriptures He chose showed the apostasy or transgression that would manifest if He followed through with what satan asked Him to do. After He had done that, satan left Him until a more opportune time. Two to three witnesses establish a matter in Torah (Reference Deuteronomy 19:15 and 2nd Corinthians 13:1). So, satan was proved wrong by those scriptures in Torah that Yahushua quoted. Those scriptures showed that what satan asked Yahushua to do would have caused transgressions of the Words of Torah (teachings of Elohim). Therefore, satan bound himself. It is especially important to realize that satan could not go forward after being proved wrong by putting forth two apostasies and one total transgression of the Words of Elohim.

This is a valuable tool for dealing with evil, even the evil inclination that dwells in us all. If you keep getting tempted by the same thing, quote the passage of the Torah that shows the consequence of that sin. After three times, you will not be bothered by it again until a more opportune time, like perhaps at a time of weakness. Do not forget to do it again if the evil returns. This is a biblical principle that the Messiah is teaching us. Everything He did was for our understanding of how to deal with life after He returned to His and our Father in Heaven.

James 4:7 “So then subject yourselves to Elohim (obey His Torah teachings). Resist the devil and he shall flee from you.”

We were created in the image of Elohim. Yahushua was the perfect image of His Father (Hebrews 1:3). In English, we could say He was an Imager of His Father. This is what we are to be as well. A simple way to know that you are staying in the image of Elohim is to remember the attributes of the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, uprightness, gentleness, and self-control. If we weigh a thought against these attributes and see that if we allow that thought to produce an action, and that action will produce something that does not conform to all these attributes, then we know that thought did not come from the Spirit of Elohim, and we should throw it out.

In Exodus 20:5, YHWH states that He will visit the sins of those who hate Him on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Him. First, I do not believe that we would see ourselves as ever hating YHWH. Secondly, the word for hate in this context means to be a foe to Him. Adversary is the meaning of satan in Hebrew. If we are acting adverse to His Words, we can fit under this definition.

YHWH is visiting each generation. Is He visiting to see that the curse stays on the children, or is He visiting to see if these children have recognized and broken the curse? It would seem to me, knowing the mercy and love YHWH shows to His creation, that the second would fit better. It is certainly the heart of Avinu that His children return to Him in love and obedience (Ezekiel Chapter 18).

Examples of how generational curses come about

We know that generational curses occur because of the father’s sins. The father is the covering for his children until they are of the age of accountability. So, suppose the father is, for example, oppressive and rules his family with anger and fits of rage. In that case, all his children under the age of accountability are without a covering because of the father’s sin. Then they are open for that same spirit to enter them and become a familiar part of their personality. A child above the age of accountability has a better chance of seeing sin for what it is and never wanting to carry that forward. The curse can be so familiar that it is unknown to the child even into adulthood or old age. It is so much a part of everyday life that it is considered normal. In the case of a child above or below the age of accountability, if the father recognizes his sin and repents, the child can be released from the curse. Henry Wright, in his book “A More Excellent Way,” shares many cases of this happening. I used anger as an example because it seems to be the most prevalent. This anger is rooted in a need for control, and its base is fear. Another sin that is becoming more recognizable in this generation is immorality. Interestingly, Jewish people start their children learning Leviticus. Leviticus is where we find the morality, cleanliness, and  Sabbath laws.

Any spirit that does not produce love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, uprightness, goodness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22) is a spirit of the adversary (satan). In this context, we are most likely all in trouble. However, these attributes are what we use to discern spirits. Manifesting a spirit adverse to these does not mean you’re following the evil one. We are all human. The Book of Enoch states that man was not created to know evil, and as such, it is exceedingly difficult to conform to these attributes in all circumstances.

Another necessary principle if we are going to have Avinu flow through us is that you cannot elevate something if you are being defined by it. You cannot elevate your flesh if you are being defined by your situation. When confronted by a dysfunctional situation (anything that does not produce the above attributes), stop before doing anything else. Recognize that an emotion is trying to dominate in your flesh. Then, remove any negative thoughts, find shalom, and confront the situation with the Words of Elohim in that calm state. A spirit of satan cannot stay in the presence of the Word. Either the spirit will leave the person or, if it is a familiar spirit to the person, they will leave with it. Try it and you will be amazed.

The reverse of generational curses

Now that we have briefly examined the generational curses, let us look at the reverse, which would be generational blessings. Instead of opening up your children to curses through sin, we should be covering and protecting our children through obedience to Avinu’s Torah. We should be reading Torah (the teachings of the Father and Son) to them daily. When our children do something wrong, we should never become angry or have any negativity in our discipline. Instead, we should sit with them in love and concern and show them what they have done wrong is against Elohim’s Torah teachings. Then explain that not following His teachings brings consequences equal to the wrong that was done. Speaking the Torah teachings to them instills the blessing because it becomes a part of them. If they are old enough, they should have to read it themselves. We can see that this is the way Yahushua removed satan, the father of lies and evil. Again, I will say Yahushua is our model. Generational curses can be broken at any time if they are recognized for what they are and there is a will to remove them, even if their father has not recognized his sin. Always quote the Torah command that is against that sin.

The child should be punished according to the transgression. Yahushua has interceded for us for sins of ignorance, accident, and deception. He sends them to satan, to whom they belong. Consider this when dealing with the sin: consider if the sin was because of ignorance, accident, or even deception. These sins are not the same as sinning in rebellion (1 John 5:16). There should not be a free ride for rebellious sins, just as there is not in Torah. A father’s righteousness is the covering over the child, just as Yahushua is our atonement (Hebrew kafor, meaning covering and atonement). If the child is in rebellion, they are being exposed to an evil spirit somewhere. Find what is in their environment that is opening this door.

Television and other social media

Television and most all social media are poison. Television and other forms of social media form neural pathways through our neural system. A neural pathway connects one part of the nervous system to another using axons called tracts. The optic tract extends from the optic nerve to the brain through a neural pathway. In this way, information is brought into the brain and stored. The information is evaluated and stored, which creates knowledge. This process is experiential, cumulative, and continually forming paradigms. This process forms a person’s reality. In the case of a child who does not receive the teachings of Elohim first and foremost so that the Words of Elohim become the measure of reality, the child will discern reality through their experiences from television instead of the Words of Elohim. Television is designed to create neural paths that lead to the parts of the brain that produce pleasure. Neural pathways in the cortico-basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical loop are seen as controlling different aspects of behavior. This regulation is enabled by the dopamine pathways. It has been proposed that the dopamine system of pathways is the overall organizer of the neural pathways that are seen to be parallels of the dopamine pathways. Dopamine is strongly associated with pleasure and reward and is seen as the feel-good neurotransmitter. It is all about making you feel good, ultimately to get you to buy something from the advertisers, but that is not the big problem. The big problem is the programming of our children away from morality. Even if they have the Torah embedded in them, it is a constant threat. The root of witchcraft is to get someone in an altered state of consciousness to get them to do what the enemy wants.

The Father is the covering for the children who are under the age of accountability. He is to protect them from all evil and keep them from the presence of evil. Just read Genesis chapters 18 and 19, which are about Abraham, Lot, and the destruction of Sodom, Gomorrah, and the other cities of the valley. When Abraham and Lot went their separate ways, Lot chose the valley and the city because it was more fruitful and would produce more wealth. In one generation, his children were programmed by the people of the city. Even his daughters, who escaped with him, immediately turned to incest because of the reality that had been instilled in them by the immorality of the city people. They should have known that the Elohim that saved them would provide men for them, but they had no concept of that reality, even after seeing the power Elohim had just displayed. The Words of Elohim being instilled in people is the only way to overcome or deprogram anyone at the point Lot’s daughters were at.

Television and other social media are designed in every aspect to control you in this way. When they say TV programs, ask yourself what (who) is being programmed? You may think you can discern and sort out what is good, but there is a constant flow of control for evil coming from television. So, is a little poison ok if I get a good reward from my dopamine? For a child in formative years, television and other social media will take the control of that child away from you and you will most likely not even perceive it.

Video games

Video games are worse, particularly if they involve any kind of weapons. Azazel is the fallen angel that all sin is attributed to because he taught men all evil, weapons, war, seductions, etc. So, guess who is behind these games. Once again, a child’s reality and world view are being created and controlled by satan’s best tools. These games are also created to create neural pathways that will give you a high.

Revelation 13:10-11 “He who brings into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword has to be killed with the sword. Here is the endurance and the belief of the Holy ones.”

This is quoting Jeremiah 15:2 and 43:11. YHWH fights the end-time battles, not men. Our battles are spiritual. We need to prepare our children for this, and the best defenses they can have are knowing and understanding the scriptures from Genesis 1:1 to the end of Revelation.

A personal experience

Now, I want to share a personal experience. My grandson-in-law had a history in his family of the men ruling with anger and intimidation at least two generations before him. I noticed him becoming angry while correcting my great grandson. I told him at that time he was building a relationship that would last a lifetime. I also told him to deal with his son as I have described above. That was a while back. I got a call recently from my grandson-in-law telling me he found my great grandson holding puppies underwater, trying to drown them. He was distraught and bewildered. I told him it was a spirit, and he and my granddaughter should be very careful not to be angry in their discipline. Anger can separate us from the power of our Father in Heaven. If you are ever confronted by anger and respond in anger, you are feeding the spirit in the other person and the anger will escalate. If you remain in a positive demeanor with no negativity, the spirit in the other person will leave that person, or if it is a familiar spirit in that person, they will leave with it as said above.

Next, I told them to tell the spirit to leave the child by the blood of Yahushua and in the name of Yahushua. Then read the Aaronic blessing over him (Numbers 6:22-27).

Then, I explained to him how the spirit got into the child. He told me the boy had been becoming more rebellious for months, and he was going around clenching his fist and being too rough with his younger sister. He had been very dysfunctional for a long time and was getting worse daily.

The power of spoken words

Another principle is that words are powerful. I had heard them saying no one can stand to be around the child, he is such a brat. Never ever speak anything negative about a child–yours or others. Jacob said, “With whom the idols are found shall surely die, and Rachel (who was hiding the idols) died untimely. The father or husband has the power to cancel an oath his wife or child has made according to Torah” (Numbers Chapter 30). So, once again, we can see that the father or husband can break the curse of a spoken word by not allowing it. There is a stipulation, though, that when the father or husband hears the words, he must cancel it on the day that he hears of it. Even though the response is to be made when he hears the words, is it possible that if he was ignorant of his responsibility, he can later annul the spoken words? If you read Leviticus Chapter 5, it says basically, something becomes sin in you when you know it. When a sin happens and you do not recognize that it is a sin at the time, the adverse actions of that sin still manifest. This is to get you to recognize something is wrong. Then, when you realize that you have sinned, you are responsible for repenting and then correcting what you did. So, when the man recognizes he should have annulled but did not understand the ramifications of these spoken words, at that moment his responsibility was to annul (disallow) the words of negativity. When you speak negatively about your children, you open the door for negative spirits to enter them. They can become exactly what you spoke over them. Examine yourself and their environment and you will find the problem.

After they told the spirit to leave and did the blessing, my great grandson’s demeanor changed immediately. He returned to the sweet child he had been before and is still a sweet child (now four years later). The potential is still there for a spirit of the adversary to return if he becomes uncovered by his father. Praise Avinu that we have the power over evil, but we must recognize that power and learn how to use it through every word spoken by Avinu ba shamayim (our Father in Heaven), just as His Son did.

So, now they regularly place generational blessings on my great-grandson and their other two children.

When I was talking to my grandson-in-law about how these things come down through the generations, he told me that his grandfather was extremely angry and mean to his dad and that his dad ruled the family with intimidation and anger. The whole family learned a wonderful lesson that day and has seen the miraculous results ever since. They are now striving to be a Torah-based family and operating accordingly. Things are never perfect, but recognizing how blessings and curses work gives us the tools to combat evil.

Praise Avinu (our Father in heaven), amen.

I hope this short article will bless all that read it.

PS: I recommend studying the Book of Job. It is foundational to understanding the workings of satan and, more importantly, it reveals how Avinu views our imperfections. Also, how He attributes our transgressions.

There are 10 basic words that are translated as sin in the Greek and up to 33 words in different contexts. They all get translated as sin. Leaving us to view the scripture with whatever our pre-disposed idea of what sin means. Two of these sin words are almost opposites, yet Strong’s concordance refers you to one for the meaning of the other. In other words, it says they both mean the same thing. In 1 John Chapter 5, one of these words is called a sin unto death, and the other is a sin not unto death. However, Strong says they mean the same thing. This is because Strong’s is telling you how it is translated. The root of this problem is translations.

The Book of Job reveals the mind and heart of Our Father in Heaven and will enable readers to understand Romans Chapter 7 and 1 John Chapters 1 through 5.

I will be glad to share my thoughts on Job that I have written.

When I write, it is just what I see in the Word. We need each other; I am just one part of the body. What I am doing when I put forth an article is to provoke a response. Agreeing or disagreeing—both are productive when the rules are. It does not matter what either of us thinks; what the Word says, as witnessed by two or three witnesses in scripture, establishes a matter.

Shalom
